Tamarod movement can’t be banned by Cairo’s court
Cairo’s court for urgent matters ruled on Monday that decisions on banning and freezing the assets of the Tamarod movement do not fall within the court’s jurisdiction. The Tamarod movement was founded in April 2013 by a group of pro-revolutionary youths, mostly from the Nasserist Popular current, aiming to oust Islamist President Mohamed Morsi. Tamarod called for early presidential elections, collecting signatures from the public for that purpose. While the movement no longer operates, several of its key figures support current President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
