A shutdown is being observed in Indian-held Kashmir

A complete shutdown is being observed in Indian-held Kashmir today (Tuesday) after a separatist group announced a protest against the killing of eight civilians by Indian forces in wake of failed Srinagar elections. Heavy contingents of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed to maintain law and order in Srinagar and other places. According to The Huffington Post, train services between the valley and Jammu region’s Bannihal town also remained suspended. Internet services, both on mobile and fixed landline connections, remained shut for the third day on Tuesday.

Asian Productivity Organization (APO): Iran makes progress in industrial-scale productivity

Secretary General of Asian Productivity Organization (APO) Santi Kanoktanaporn announced here on Monday that plans are underway to turn Tehran into productivity hub. APO is a regional and inter-governmental organization which was founded in 1961 by participation of eight countries of China, India, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, South Korea, Philippines and Thailand and now has 19 members. Aim of APO is to participate in economic-social development of member-states and improve life quality for their people through promotion of productivity with reciprocal cooperation morale among the member-states. Membership in APO is permitted for all Asia-Pacific states which are members of the UN–ESCAP. The 59th meeting of APO board of governors kicked off and it will last three days in Tehran. Sustainable productivity is the main subject of this meeting in Tehran.

Pakistan army chief may visit Iran

A leading Pakistani newspaper reports that army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa might visit Iran in the coming days to address reservations of Iran over the controversial military alliance. It says Pakistan has traditionally maintained a delicate balance in its relationship with Iran and Saudi Arabia, which have serious differences on Syria and Yemen. Iran believes that the Saudi-led coalition is not meant for fighting terrorism. Officials have said Pakistan has clearly told Saudi Arabia that its participation would be strictly for the purpose of fighting terrorism and that it would not become part of any campaign against any other country, including Iran. Opposition parties including the Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf are also skeptical of Gen Raheel’s role in the Saudi alliance.

Fencing on Pak-Afghan border started, threat zones were the first priority

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday said that fencing on Pak-Afghan border has been started and Bajaur and Mohmand agencies being high threat zones were the first priority in this regard. He stated this while talking to troops at Suran and Kalaya during his visit to Pak-Afghan border areas in Mohmand and Orakzai Agency.He added that Pakistan Army shall employ all resources required for defence of the motherland and security of the peace-loving Pakistani tribes.

Two soldiers and 5 militants killed during operation in Orakzai Agency

At least five militants were killed and two soldiers martyred on Wednesday during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted by Frontier Corps (FC) in OrakzaiAgency. A high-profile militant identified as Durran was also killed in the operation. He was involved in a number of terrorist activities and was sent from Afghanistan with the task to target a Nauroz procession in the agency and individuals who surrendered to security forces, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

Joint search and intelligence based operations were conducted by Punjab Rangers, police and intelligence agencies in DG Khan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Sialkot, Shakargarh and Jand, Attock and Sheikhupura under the umbrella of Pakistan Army’s countrywide operation Raddul Fasaad, Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. According to ISPR, 46 suspects were apprehended, 11 of which belonged to Afghanistan. Weapons and ammo were also recovered from the detainees.

Pakistan: China agree to further strengthen military cooperation

Chief of Army Staff General (COAS) Qamar JavedBajwa on Thursday arrived in China for a three-day official visit and meet Chinese leadership where both sides agreed to continue and further increase their military to military cooperation. According to the ISPR, the Army chief held meetings at Beijing with Executive Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli, Vice Chairman Central Military Commission General Fan Changlong, Chief of Joint Services Department Genera Fang Funghui and Commander People’s Liberation Army (PLA) General Li Zuocheng.

Pakistan becoming world’s terrorism factory: India at UNHRC

Calling Pakistan a terrorism factory, India on Wednesday lashed out at the neighbouring country saying its terror policies have alienated its own people through continued mistreatment of minorities. In the United Nation, India accused Pakistan of spreading terrorism and illegally occupying some territories in Kashmir. Exercising its right to reply during a UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, the Indian Representative said Pakistan must rein in its “compulsive hostility” towards India. “We ask Pakistan to stop inciting and supporting violence and terrorism in any part of India and refrain from meddling in our internal affairs in any manner”, the official said.

 

Pakistani troops to guard Saudi borders against Houthi attacks

Pakistan will send combat troops to protect Saudi Arabia’s southern borders from attacks by Houthis in Yemen, reported Middle East Eye citing senior security sources. The Pakistani brigade will only be deployed inside the southern borders of the kingdom. “It will not be used beyond Saudi borders,” an insider told the Gulf-based newspaper. The move follows a visit by Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa to Saudi Arabia in December last year. The army chief had been on a three-day visit to the kingdom where he met Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz. “COAS reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the security and protection of the Holy Mosques and also the territorial integrity of the kingdom”, Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement.

Pakistan will reopen its borders with Afghanistan, said a government spokesperson on Monday, days after Islamabad closed the Torkham and Chaman borders after a recent surge in terrorist attacks. “The borders at Chaman and Torkham will be reopened on March 7-8”, Foreign Office spokesperson NafeesZakaria said in a statement. “Pakistani and Afghan citizens will be allowed to travel on legal travel documents”. In the wake of bloody suicide bombings last month, Pakistan shut down border crossings – halting trade supplies to the neighbouring landlocked country and stopping movement of the people across the border – increasing tensions between the two nations.
