The Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) Annual Meetings and Side Events 2017 was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on April 04-06, co-hosted by the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Bank Negara Malaysia. Dr. Valiollah Seif, Governor of Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran was the Chairperson of the IFSB for 2017. The meetings brought together the key stakeholders of the Islamic financial services industry which include regulatory and supervisory authorities, industry and market players, multilateral organizations, academics, Islamic finance practitioners and members of the public.

 

UN to facilitate repatriation of Malaysian staff in North Korea

The United Nations will assist to smoothen the process of bringing out two of its staff, who are Malaysian citizens, from North Korea. A UN source in New York told Bernama that the two women, who are in their 30s, were contacted as soon as the travel ban notice on Malaysians in North Korea issued by Pyongyang was reported by the international media. Both are safe. They are not officers or staff of the Malaysian Embassy.“They are our staff (UN) who were sent to North Korea to attend a course related to the World Food Programme (WFP)”, the source said.

Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia’s foreign minister says the government has expelled North Korea’s ambassador for criticising the investigation into the killing of the North Korean leader’s estranged half brother. Foreign Minister AnifahAman said in a statement that a notice was sent to the North Korean Embassy on Saturday saying Ambassador Kang Chol had to leave the country within 48 hours. Anifah said that earlier in the week, Malaysia demanded that North Korea apologise for criticising the investigation into the February 13 killing of Kim Jong- Nam at Kuala Lumpur’s airport.

Four major agreements were signed by Saudi Arabia and Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. The first memorandum of understanding is related to cooperation in the trade and investement field and was signed by Minister of State Ibrahim Al-Assaf and Malysian Minister of Commerce and Industry Mustapa Mohamed. The second one includes cooperation in the field of labor and human resources. The third one concerns boosting cooperation in scientific and education sectors and the fourth one is about cooperation between SPA and National News Agency of Malaysia. During the visit there were also many ministerial meetings such as the one with the Malaysian Minister of Education and Saudi Arabia also announced more scholarships for Malaysian students due to 300 applications received last year.

Glocom is a spy agency by North Korean that sells battlefield radio equipment in violation of United Nations sanctions

It is in Kuala Lumpur’s “Little India” neighborhood, behind an unmarked door on the second floor of a rundown building, where a military equipment company called Glocom says it has its office. Glocom is a front company run by North Korean intelligence agents that sells battlefield radio equipment in violation of United Nations sanctions, according to a United Nations report submitted to the Security Council seen by Reuters. Reuters found that Glocom advertises over 30 radio systems for “military and paramilitary” organizations on its Malaysian website, glocom.com.my.

King Salman visited Malaysia, both countries believe in peaceful nature of Islam and will sign new agreements

King Salman visited Malaysia today during his tour to Asia, that includes Indonesia, Japan, China, Brunei, Jordan and Maldives. Malaysian Prime Minister affirmed that relations between the two countries are built on mutual trust and respect through the years. The Minister also said both countries believe in the tolerant,moderate and peaceful nature of Islam and will sign a number of new agreements. The visit will focus on stregthen bilateral relations at all levels for the benefit of the two countries but also for the unity of the Muslim world as a whole. Also on the commercial front the two countries has improved significantly and the visit will open several channels of cooperation.

4 North Koreans fled Malaysia after murder of brother's leader Kim Jong

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) — Four North Korean suspects in the murder of the estranged half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un fled Malaysia on the day he was attacked at Kuala Lumpur airport and apparently killed by a fast-acting poison, police said on Sunday. A North Korean man, a Vietnamese woman and an Indonesian women have been arrested already in connection with the assassination of Kim Jong Nam last Monday, which has triggered a diplomatic spat between Malaysia and Pyongyang.

The estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been killed in Malaysia, a South Korean government source told Reuters on Tuesday. Kim Jong Nam, the older half brother of the North Korean leader, was known to be based mostly outside of his home country. Police in Malaysia told Reuters on Tuesday an unidentified North Korean man had died en route to hospital from Kuala Lumpur airport on Monday. Abdul Aziz Ali, police chief for the Sepang district, said the man’s identity had not been verified.
