Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea met on Monday in Meerab with the Representative for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Lebanon Mireille Girard, accompanied by her Lebanese affairs’ Advisor, Dominique Tohme, with talks reportedly touching on the current situation of Syrian displaced people in Lebanon and the need to assist them pending their safe return to their homeland. Talks also touched on UNHCR’s assistance in support of the infrastructure of Lebanon as a country hosting at home about a million and a half Syrian refugees.

Lebanese industry Minister urges businessmen to accept government measures to restore trade balance

Industry Minister, Hussein Hajj Hassan, called on Lebanese investors, businessmen, and merchants to accept the government’s adopted measures to safeguard the domestic industry and to protect Lebanese products. The Minister wished of Lebanon’s “friends and brothers” to take these measures into account as they “do not target any country maintaining economic and trade relations with Lebanon”. The Minister also asked of accredited Ambassadors to Lebanon to relay “a real picture of the situation of the Lebanese economy to their governments”.

The Lebanese authorities have installed the first blocks of a wall that will isolate the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, named Ein Al-Hilweh. The camp, which is located southeast of Sidon city, is overcrowded with 80,000 refugees. The wall sparked anger within the Palestinians and the refugee communities, calling it the “Apartheid Wall” and “the wall of shame,” saying it will turn the camp into a big prison, and compared it to Israeli apartheid wall in the occupied Palestinian territories. Authorities in Lebanon maintain of the security watchtower will enable the army to better control the camp amid claims that militants seek refugee there.
