Saudi Arabia calls for more experts at Yemen human rights office

As reportde by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) the Kingdom stressed the need of delegating more experts to the Yemen-based Human Rights Commision’s Office, in order to back up workings of the Indipendent National Committee, which identyfies violations and trespasses committed on the ground. Moreover, during the 34th session of the Human Rights Council, the Saudi Ambassador to the UN in Geneva underlined the Saudi support for the Yemeni government to reach peace and mitigate suffering of the Yemenis. He also renewed the call to the International community to support Yemen’s legitimate government to resume the peace process.

Reds to declare ceasefire before the end of March.

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on Saturday noon said it is set to issue a unilateral declaration of interim ceasefire not later than March 31 in anticipation and support of the fourth round of peace talks between the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) set from April 2 to 6 in The Netherlands. The announcement came after Friday’s release of two prisoners-of-war (POWs) in Mati, Davao Oriental by the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels. The CPP said it is looking forward to a similar unilateral ceasefire declaration by the government, as mutually agreed upon during backchannel talks from March 10 to 11.

 

Hamas supporters call for 'revenge' against Israel.

Thousands of Hamas supporters on Saturday called for “revenge” during the Gaza funeral of an official from the Palestinian Islamist movement gunned down the previous day. All partcipants were shouting reverage for Mazen Faqha, 38, who was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the Gaza Strip on Friday. According to Hamas it is clear that it’s Israel’s falt the murder. Israel arrested Faqha and sentenced him to prison over suicide attacks which killed hundreds of Israelis during the second intifada, or uprising, between 2000 and 2005. He was released in 2011 along with more than 1,000 other terrorists in exchange for Gilad Shalit, and transferred to Gaza. Palestinian Authority leader Ismail Haniyeh and Gazan Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar headed the procession from the Shifa morgue to the Omari mosque, an AFP photographer said. “If the enemy thinks that this assassination will change the power balance, then it should know the minds of Qassam will be able to retaliate in kind”, he said.

Fencing on Pak-Afghan border started, says COAS Gen Bajwa.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday said that fencing on Pak-Afghan border has been started and Bajaur and Mohmand agencies being high threat zones were the first priority in this regard. He stated this while talking to troops at Suran and Kalaya during his visit to Pak-Afghan border areas in Mohmand and Orakzai Agency.He added that Pakistan Army shall employ all resources required for defence of the motherland and security of the peace-loving Pakistani tribes

Gauri Van Gulik, Amnesty International’s Deputy Europe Director  has expressed is discontentment in front of EU policy toward migrants. “It is clear that putting up walls and fences is not deterring desperate people from trying to reach safety – it is simply putting more lives in peril and filling the pockets of smugglers” he told. EU do everything to impeach them to reach Europe but Human Rights in their origini countries are not respected, and their situation is worth. According to him EU should purpose a safe and legal way to accede to EU.

The UN Human Rights Council today told the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to gather information on human rights abuses in Libya so as to be able to initiate proceedings against those responsible. This decision to choose to focus on Libyan case is a result of Haftar acts, he had been accused of war crimes. ICC (International Criminal Court) had been duly criticized for it lack of willingness on the case. Today’s decision also follows tweets yesterday from UN special envoy Martin Kobler that the UN had raised alarms about human rights violations not only in Benghazi but also in the west of the country and that it was “following on them”.

Korea to develop battery-powered submarines by 2027.

The military plans to build three lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery-powered submarines by 2027, according to Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) officials Friday. Samsung SDI will make the batteries. Hanwha Techwin will develop a system for integrating them into the submarines that Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering will manufacture. It is part of a long-term project to replace aging submarines. The Navy will have nine 3,000-ton submarines equipped with domestic technologies in a decade if the project is completed as planned, according to DAPA

Muslim world condemns terror strike.

Following the terror attack in London in front of the British Parliament and Westminter bridge on Wednesday, when an assailant killed 3 people and injured 40 before being shot dead by police, leaders and officials from the Arab and Muslim world strogly condemned it and in particular King Salman sent his condolences to UK Prime Minister Theresa May. Moreover King Salman said that Saudi Arabia strongly “rejects such terrorist acts in all their forms and manifestations” and underlined international efforts to confront and eradicate them. Also Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent cable of condolences, beside the secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and secretary general of the Arab League.

 

North Korea ready to conduct nuclear test.

North Korea appears to have completed preparation for another nuclear test and is ready to carry it out, South Korea’s military said Friday, as the United Nations adopted a statement condemning Pyongyang’s latest military provocations. “Our assessment is that North Korea is ready to conduct a nuclear test if they get the go ahead from Kim Jong-un”, said an official from Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff in a meeting with reporters. “We believe they have been preparing for a long period of time”. Fox News and AFP reported Thursday that the North would conduct a sixth nuclear test within the coming days, citing US officials with knowledge of the matter.

 

 

Bu Khamada: Fighters with mental illness are part of east Libya army.

Tensions between East and West Libya. Fighters with psychiatric disorder are fighting alongside Khalifa Haftar’s self-styled Libyan National Army, the commander of Al-Saiqa Forces Wanis Bu Khamada has declared, while he was addressing a tribal group to give excuses for the shocking videos of crimes committed by the army in Benghazi. The polemic is also on war crimes commited last week by General Haftar and his army. Indeed, on the social networks we can see a video showing the General saying : “All weapons are allowed, no mercy, don’t take prisoners, we have no prisons here, the battlefield is the battlefield”, a clear incitation to the violence.
