Boko Haram soldiers killed by Nigerian troops

A yet unknown number of Boko Haram fighters were reported killed on Sunday after Nigerian troops returned fire in response to an attack on its location by armed terrorists in the Kangarwa area of Borno State.
People familiar with the matter told the terrorists attacked troops of the 119 Task Force Battalion at about 4 P.M. on Sunday, shooting sporadically. Nigerian soldiers responded promptly, killing an unknown number of Boko Haram fighters, and wounding several others. One of our sources said at least 13 bodies of terrorists were counted after calm was restored. He said several other members of the sect escaped with “serious gunshot wounds”.

Members of Boko Haram are hiding in some villages in Monguno

The House of Representatives yesterday raised an alarm that some members of the Boko Haram sect are hiding within some villages in Monguno, Marte and Nganzai local government areas of Borno State. The lawmakers, while adopting a motion by Rep Mohammed Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno), said due to the development, the Nigerian Armed Forces found it difficult to flush out members of the sect from the areas. The House said the action has adversely affected the amenities for the people of Monguno.

Nigerian Forces liberated at least 16 local governments occupied by Boko Haram

The United Nations on Tuesday confirmed that at least 16 local governments initially occupied by the Boko Haram in north-east Nigeria have been liberated by Nigerian forces. The immediate past UN Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Safieldin, said he made on-the-spot assessment of some of the liberated local governments including Bama, Damboa, Monguno, Konduga, Dikwa, Gwoza, Pulka, and Banki .
Speaking to the New York correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria, the official lamented the level of destruction on the communities by Boko Haram, saying there is real humanitarian crisis in the liberated areas.

Federal Government still working to ensure the release of more Chibok girls

The Federal Government yesterday stated that dialogue was still ongoing to ensure the release of more Chibok girls and other persons held hostage by terrorists, even as it has threatened to deal with sponsors of Boko Haram as terrorists. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity , Dr Femi Adesina made the assertion in Lagos. Reiterating federal government’s resolve at ensuring that those held hostage by members of the Boko Haram sect were released in good condition, Adesina said ” This government is doing all it can to tackle insurgency. If it knows the sponsors and is double sure they are the sponsors, it would be left with no choice than to treat them like Boko Haram”.

Boko Haram insurgents attacked and injured 6 soldiers

At least six soldiers were injured on Saturday when they ran into an ambush by Boko Haram insurgents while escorting a convoy of Gwoza Local Government Area officials. The ambush occurred along Maiduguri-Bama road, close to Bama. A gang of about 40 Boko Haram members opened fire on the convoy that was being escorted by soldiers of the 121 Task Force Battalion, Pulka. The caretaker council chairman of Gwoza, Saeed Sambo, told journalists that the soldiers fought back fiercely, killing about 20 of the attackers. He said they came under attack at about 10 a.m. when they were heading for Gwoza from Maiduguri.

Five villagers in Nigeria killed by Boko Haram jihadists

Boko Haram jihadists have raided three villages in northeastern Nigeria, killing five people and setting fire to several homes and fields, residents told AFP on Thursday. Armed members of the extremist group on Wednesday sped into the villages of Huyum, Sabongarin Huyum and Wasada on motorbike, killing five villagers and looting their property before setting fire to their homes and farms, witnesses said. Hundreds of people living in the three villages fled for the relative safety of the town of Askira, located some 10km away.
