The Israeli Embassy in Azerbaijan follows closely the developments in the case of blogger Alexander Lapshin, Amir Rom, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Israeli Embassy said. “We are in contact with the relevant parties through diplomatic and consular channels,” he noted. On Feb. 7, blogger Lapshin was extradited to Azerbaijan from Belarus. Lapshin, who holds Russian, Israeli, and Ukrainian citizenship, paid illegal visits to the occupied Azerbaijani territories in April 2011 and in October 2012, violating Azerbaijan’s laws on the state border and passports. He made statements against Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

Cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union; President Ilham Aliyev meets Jean Claude Juncker in Brussels

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Monday accepted credentials of newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Peru Luis Manuel Santiago Marcovich Monasi. He noted that very good opportunities were established to define cooperation areas for the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries. The Peruvian diplomat informed the head of state about the work planned to be done to develop cooperation in a variety of fields between the two countries. Ilham Aliyev on Monday received also credentials of newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland Arja Inkeri Makkonen and of newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to Azerbaijan Marin Mottus.

Fire broke out following an explosion at a gas pipeline  

A fire erupted after an explosion at a gas pipeline in Azerbaijan on Monday morning, the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said on Monday.  “A large number of equipment and fire brigades have been dispatched to the scene of the accident,” the Ministry said. “The gas supply through the main gas pipeline of 1000 mm diameter has been suspended.”  The fire that broke out following an explosion at a gas pipeline in Sangachal settlement, has been extinguished, the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations informed.

Agreements between Azerbaijan’s SOCAR Trading SA and Poland’s company Lotos Oil

SOCAR Trading SA, the marketing arm of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, and the Polish company Lotos Oil have reached agreements to transport oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG), Azerbaijani Embassy in Poland said in a message. The agreements were reached during the bilateral business meetings that took place in Warsaw as part of the 7th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Poland Intergovernmental Commission.

World Bank approved $400 million loan for Turkey and Azerbaijan

The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved a $400 million loan for Turkey and a $400 million loan for Azerbaijan for the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) Project, according to WB website. “We are very pleased to be part of a coalition of partners supporting TANAP, a component of the transformational Southern Gas Corridor, which will bring natural gas from the Caspian Sea to Europe,” said Cyril Muller, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia. “TANAP will not only boost competitiveness and create economic opportunities for people in Azerbaijan and Turkey, it will also support regional trade, improve connectivity, and support energy security in Turkey and in Europe.”

Azerbaijani FM Mammadyarov received Deputy FM of Turkey

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov on Wednesday received Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkey Umit Yalcin. Umit Yalcin expressed gratitude to Minister Mammadyarov for Azerbaijan’s resolute stance with regard to the recent developments in Turkey. The sides stressed the importance of increasing joint anti-terrorism efforts by Azerbaijan and Turkey. They also praised the Azerbaijani-Turkish cooperation and the two countries’ supporting each other’s positions within the international organizations.

Belarus and Azerbaijan on an expansion of trade and economic relations

A delegation headed by Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev will be on a visit in Belarus on Dec. 15-17, Azerbaijan’s Economy Ministry said in a message. The Azerbaijani delegation will include representatives of the relevant government agencies and entrepreneurs. The issues of expansion of trade and economic relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus will be discussed during the visit, it is also planned to hold meetings with the participation of the business circles of the two countries.

Azerbaijani FM talks about how to solve the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict

Azerbaijan will continue efforts to resolve the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with substantive negotiations jointly with the co-chairs, said Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Elmar Mammadyarov. The FM made the remarks during a meeting with Stephan Visconti, OSCE Minsk Group co-chair from France, in Baku Dec. 12.

Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia Elmar Mammadyarov and Edward Nalbandian discussed the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in Hamburg on December 8 evening in the presence of foreign ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries (Russia, US, France), Hikmat Hajiyev, spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, told APA on Dec. 9. The conflict settlement was discussed during a working dinner, which was held at the invitation of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, added Hajiyev. During the dinner, the sides also had an exchange of views on the continuation of talks and the issues on the 2017 agenda, he noted.
