Federal Police repels IS attack, kills 10 militants in Mosul

Federal Police forces managed on Saturday to repel an attack launched by the Islamic State group, using booby trapped vehicles and suicide bombers, on the front lines of the security forces in the outskirts of Dawasa area in Mosul. “Security forces also managed to kill 10 suicide bombers and detonate 5 booby-trapped vehicles”, have said  the Federal Police Chief, Lieutenant General Raed Shakir Jawdat. Security forces also managed to kill 10 suicide bombers and detonate 5 booby-trapped vehicles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kerala: Bomb hurled at RSS office in Kozhikode’s Kallachi, three injured

A bomb was hurled late Thursday at the RSS office in Kallachi near Nadapura, Kozhikode district in Kerala. Three RSS workers were injured in the attack and were shifted to Kozhikode’s Government Medical College. The identities of the perpetrators remain unknown. The attack on the RSS office in Kerala comes on a day when an RSS leader from Ujjain announced a “bounty” of Rs 1 crore on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s head. Kundan Chandravat, ‘Sah Prachar Pramukh’ of RSS in Ujjain held Vijayan responsible for the deaths of RSS workers in Kerala.

9 IS “Sinai Province” militants killed and 16 other injured

Armed forces affiliated to the third field army, which operate between south and central Sinai, foiled on Friday morning an attack launched by militants believed to be from the Islamic State-affiliated (IS) group “Sinai Province”, killing nine attackers and injuring 16.The IS-affiliated group is believed to be currently adapting a new war strategy that is based on targeting forces all across the Sinai Peninsula (not only in the North).

President Erdogan: Respect for people’s lifestyle is reciproca

Some Western media outlets have already contended that the way of life of Turkey’s secular circles are under attack, pointing to the recent nightclub attack. President Erdoğan rebuked these claims, saying that those who put forward such contentions should prove their solvency: “It does nothing but confuse people’s minds to make comments about people’s lifestyles,” he said. In addition, some opposition circles in Turkey have claimed that the attack by the terrorist group was actually against the secular way of life, adding that the secular lifestyle is under threat. However, the public remains united in the face of the recent terrorist attack. President Erdoğan asserted that such speculations and claims regarding the lifestyles of people in Turkey aim to polarize society: “I know that there is no obligation for anyone in our country and the world to have the same lifestyle,” he said, adding that respect for people’s way of living is reciprocal.

Rex Tillerson attacked by Democrats over tax returns

Democrats attacked the Secretary of State nominated, Rex Tillerson, who promised to provide at the Foreign Relations Commitee of the Senate tax returns for the last 3 years, which did not. The President of the Foreign Relations Commitee of the Senate, the Republican Bob Corker has tried to downplay the incident remembering that the presentation of the tax returns is not obligatory for the appointment, rather than the Democrats Corker is busy in trying to convince the dissidents republicans in Senate to accept the appointment of Tillerson, of which moreover does not seem absolutely convinced even the same Corker. What is certain is that the battle to officialy nominate Tillerson as Secretary of State will not be easy at all.

Shin Bet prevented an attack in Jerusalem

An attack in Jerusalem was prevented by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) in conjunction with Israel Police, it was announced on Friday. According to the Shin Bet, security forces uncovered an eight-person terror cell of east Jerusalem residents from the neighborhoods of Sur Baher and Sheikh Jarrah, planning to carry out a shooting attack against an IDF base in Jerusalem. The cell, made up of mostly minors and Hamas activists, were arrested in November. The cell members had been arrested throughout 2015 for taking part in riots and had begun planning shooting attacks in Jerusalem while they were in prison, including attacking an IDF base next to the Hebrew University’s Mount Scopus campus.

Army and popular forces attacked Saudi soldiers in Jizan, Najran and Asir.

The missile and artillery units of the army and popular forces fired on gatherings and sites of Saudi soldiers in Jizan, Najran and Asir provinces. In Jizan, the missile forces fired on the the posts where Saudi soldiers were gathering in Jalah military center, burning the posts. The same happened in Najran where the rocketry units fired missiles on military posts in al-Sudays, hitting the targets directly.  In Asir, the artillery units bombarded the Saudi groups of soldiers in Kamahat al-Sheihk military sites.

Suicide bomber killed by troops

Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency says troops have gunned down a suicide bomber at a transit camp for refugees from Boko Haram in the northeastern city of Maiduguri. The Saturday attack is the sixth in three weeks in the Nigerian city that was the birthplace of the Islamic extremist uprising that has killed more than 20 000 people in seven years. Security forces have foiled most of the attacks. Boko Haram has recently stepped up attacks after a months-long lull.

Nigerian Army wounded 5 and killed 7 Boko Haram soldiers

Seven Boko Haram insurgents were killed while several others wounded yesterday evening during an encounter with troops of 119 Battalion Group of 8 Division of the Nigerian Army deployed in Kangarwa, one of the villages in the hinterland of northern Borno. A statement on Sunday from the director army public relations officer, Col Sani Usman, said the insurgents who had earlier on Tuesday attacked an isolated village in Dasa, were fiercely engaged by the troops forcing them to hastily retreat in disarray after sustaining casualties.
Five soldiers who sustained injuries during the offensive have been evacuated and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. Troops are still on aggressive pursuit of the fleeing insurgents.

The militants says attackers have bombed oil pipelines

Nigerian militants and a local leader say attackers have bombed oil pipelines 100km apart, the fifth attack this month in response to a military campaign in Nigeria’s southern, petroleum-producing Niger Delta. Community leader Stephen Igwe says two other explosions blasted Italian company Agip’s Tebidaba-Brass pipeline. An Avengers statement warns of “continuous attacks” in retaliation for military raids. It questions the sincerity of government negotiations to address demands for justice and development in the oil-polluted region. Oil companies do not comment on attacks.
