Medenine families with specific needs received assistance

Support for the creation of income sources was given in kind to eleven families in need in Medenine on Saturday, at the initiative of the Kuwaiti Association “Direct Assistance” in Tunisia, in coordination with the Women’s Association Ayadi Rahima. The projects concern sheep farming, sewing, embroidery, trade and handicrafts. Some 45 beneficiaries (men and women) from several regions (Medenine, Kebili, Gafsa, Siliana, Béja) benefit from this assistance programme initiated by the Kuwaiti Association active in Tunisia since 2012. Last year the association undertook maintenance work for eleven schools and plans to provide a similar programme in eight other schools throughout the regions. In Sfax, the association launched a programme for the distribution of microcredits to 3,000 families, mainly women.

Commitment to ceasefire reaffirmed by Army spokesman Sharaf Luqman

The Army spokesman Sharaf Luqman reaffirmed on Saturday the commitment to the ceasefire in line of Oman’s principle agreement, providing the other side should obey by the agreed truce: “According to the principle agreement struck in the Omani Capital, we affirm our commitment to ceasefire if the other side obeyed by the truce and halt all military actions”.

The individual, wanted for belonging to a terrorist organization, was planning a terrorist attack on members of the National Guard and the Army, an Interior Ministry press release read.

Russia will keep developing advanced military technology to protect itself

On Friday, during a conference with Russian generals and defense industry captains in Sochi, Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted that  Russia will oppose attempts to disrupt the strategic balance around the world, such as NATO’s global anti-ballistic missile defense system.  He said Russia will continue to develop advanced military technology to protect itself. Moscow accuses the US and its NATO partners of compromising Russian national security by developing means to counter Russia’s nuclear deterrence, expanding the alliance towards Russian borders and developing advanced conventional strike technology that may be used for a large attack.

Over 4,600 migrants died trying to cross the Mediterranean sea in 2016

The death toll of migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea, mostly from the Libyan coast, hit a new record for the month of November, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) says in its latest report. The report says that 546 migrants are reported to be dead so far in the month of November, compared to 141 in 2015 and 22 in 2014 for the whole of November. Approximately 365 people were reported to have lost their lives in the Mediterranean this week alone in three separate shipwrecks that had set off from the Libyan coast. The figure has been rising steadily over the last few days as rescued migrants disembark in Italy and report how many had set off on their craft. This reported number is compared to the number rescued to arrive at those considered missing at sea. These latest mortality reports make 2016 the deadliest year on record for migrants or refugees attempting the perilous crossing. The latest IOM figures say that over 4,600 migrants died in 2016 with 343,589 arriving by sea to Europe.

Russia on the political aspects of the settlement in Donbass

On Thursday, Alexander Lukashevich, Russian ambassador to OSCE, during  a meeting of OSCE’s Permanent Council in Vienna, said that Russia is calling to develop the active talks on political aspects of the settlement in Donbass. According to Lukashevich, it’s necessary to develop active talks at the respective working subgroup of the Contact Group on political aspects of the settlement and the implementation of the permanent law on a special status of Donbass. The diplomat went on saying that the US administration should influence Kiev so that the pro-government forces stop shelling the self-proclaimed Donbass republics.  Lukashevich also said that Russia hails installation of video cameras of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission at the dividing of the parties in Donbass from the line of engagement.

Economic growth required for the creation of jobs

“The creation of real jobs requires the restoration of economic growth,” Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said on Friday when he presented the government’s declaration to the House of the People’s Representatives ( HPR). “Real jobs are created by growth,” added Chahed, adding that his government’s economic program, whose finance bill is a tool for its achievement, is based on the resumption of growth. It is a question of working to offer employment to more than 600 thousand unemployed among including 250 thousand among the higher education graduates, he said. “The strategy of the national unity government in the field of employment is based on three axes namely the impulse of growth, the strengthening of private initiative through the encouragement of young people to create jobs and the implementation of employment policies for young people suffering from chronic unemployment, “he said, adding that these axes will serve both young people and the inland regions. The Prime Minister recalled that post-revolution low growth rates limited employment in the civil service, indicating that the organized private sector was able to create only 10 thousand jobs while the number of higher education graduates, which reach the labour market annually, stands at 50 thousand people.

President Putin will meet leaders of Japan, Vietnam, Philippines, China and Peru on November 19

On Friday, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin’s spokesman, affirmed that the Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to hold talks with the leaders of China, Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines and Peru on November 19 on the sidelines of the APEC summit due to open in Peru’s capital of Lima, which Putin will attend. Peskov went on saying that the administrations of the Russian and US presidents did not arrange a separate meeting of Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama. However, the two leaders will be able to talk with each other in Peru. The Kremlin spokesman declined to specify the possible topics of the conversation, adding that the two leaders may discuss about “the most pressing issues.”
