Russia’s Gazprom plans to build Turkish Stream pipeline by end of 2019

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said in a statement on March 29 that the company aims to finish construction of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline by the end of 2019, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency and Russia’s TASS have reported. Gazprom plans to start laying Turkish Stream undersea pipes in the second half of this year, according to the statement. It has also set up a branch of South Stream Transport B.V. in Istanbul to coordinate work on the Turkish Stream gas pipeline project in Turkey, Miller told reporters. The drilling of the first section of the micro tunnel has been completed on the Russian stretch. The second micro tunnel is 98.5 percent ready.

King Salman stresses on a peaceful solution in Yemen

During the 28th Arab Summit opening session King Salman stressed the importance of a peaceful solution to the crisis in Yemen based on the Gulf initiative and outputs of the national dialogue. He also underlined the importance of unity and stability of Yemen. Moreover he talked about Syria and said that in Syria in necessary a peaceful solution too. In fine King Salman highlighted that “the most dangerous thing facing our Arab nation is terrorism and extremisms”.

Saudi Arabia: New tax regime to boost Aramco IPO value

Saudi Arabia approved a new tax regime for oil and natural gas producers on Monday. Under the new regime hydrocarbon companies will be taxed depending on their capital, therefore companies with capital of more than SR375 billion will pay 50 percent income tax, those with capital between SR300 billion and SR375 billion will pay 65 percent tax, those with capital between SR225 billion and SR300 billion will pay 75 percent of tax and those with capital below SR225 billion 85 percent of tax. The consequence will be a boost of Saudi Aramco’s valuation and it will see its income tax fall from 85 percent to 50 percent. The new rates will also put the company in line with international benchmarks and the new rate is effective retroactively from Jan. 1. Moreover future investrors interested in buying Saudi Aramco shares will see more clash flow. In fine the government will not lose income due to the fact that any reduction in tax is replaced by stable dividend payments.

Boko Haram fighter killed by troops of 112 Task Force Battalion durign the Operation Lafiya Yole

A Boko Haram gunman was killed Wednesday in a Village in Borno State. The spokesman of the Nigeria army, Sani Usman, said the attack was repelled by troops of 112 Task Force Battalion durign the Operation Lafiya Yole. The attack occurred when the troops were carrying out a fighting patrol towards Boskoro, Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State where it was believed, a sleeper cell of Boko Haram terrorists was hibernating. “While advancing, the troops came in contact with some elements of the terrorists suspected to be in staging area to lay ambush for troops along Ajiri-Dikwa road”, said Mr. Usman. The patrol team engaged the terrorists and neutralized one of them, unfortunately one soldier sustained injury during the operation. The gallant soldier has been evacuated to military hospital and he is responding to treatment.

Nigeria meningitis outbreak: 282 deaths confirmed in five states

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has registrated an increase of meningitis cases in five states with at least 282 deaths. Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Chief Executive Officer, said that have been recorder since february 1,966 suspected cases and amongst them, 109 have been confirmed. Zamgara has the hightest number of confirmed cases, followed by Katsina, Sokoto and Kebbi; a new strand of meningitis called “stereotype C” has emerged in place of the previous known type “stereotype A”, which has disappeared. He regretted that there was not yet commercially available vaccine for this new stereotype “C” meningitis. For this reason was necessary to make application to the World Health Organisation : the vaccine for this specific outbreak stereotype is not commercially available. “Thankfully the vaccines have arrived and we have started vaccination campaign in Zamfara. We are in the process of starting in Sokoto and Kebbi states”. Meningitis is a tough disease and it is associated with over-crowding, understanding the living conditions in the country, people must keep their building ventilated, avoid sleeping in overcrowded condition.

With the installation of the firts temporary authorities, the peace process seems finally to progress. But the rivalries persist between the various armed groups and the jihadists movements. Durign these months the peace process progressed, stagned, sometimes seems to collapse. With more than one year of delay on the initial schedule which planned authorities implementation three months after the signing of the Agreement of Algiers in 2015, they were finally settled at the beginning of March in three of the Nord of Mali regions: Kidal, Gao and Ménaka. For nationals and international actors this is a decisive step toward the implementation of peace process, even if the situation still remain uncertain in Timbuktoo and Taoudeni, because before the istallation of the temporary authorities there was nothing concrete. “Finally we move forward” said one of the leader of the Coordination of the movements of Azawad (ex rebellion Touaregue). One of the main disposition of the peace agreement is to prepare the next elections: the Government, the CMA and the coalition of pregovernmental armed groups rapresent the various parties.

Arab Leaders At Summit Endorse Two-State Solution

The 28th Araban League Summit endorsed the two-state solution in its closing statement on Wednesday, saying the Arab world would be ready to reconcile with Israel if it withdrew from the land it conquered in the 1967 war. They affirmed that they will continue to work to relaunch serious Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations that take place within a set period of time based on the two-state solution. Trump surprised Arab leaders on February 15 when he said that he does not commit to a two-state solution. He said to Nethanyau that he’s looking at two-state or one-state, he likes the one that both parties like. He’s very happy with the one both parties like. Abbas also said that Arab leaders will convey the summit’s conclusions on the Israel-Palestinian conflict to Trump in “one voice” in their upcoming meetings with the American president. Abbas also said that Israel s preventing peace and cooperation infact Israel is continuing to expand settlements and undermining the chances of achieving peace. The parties discussed a final agreement that would include recognition of Israel as a Jewish state and changes to the pre-1967 armistice lines through land swaps.

2016 hailed as best year for Israeli economy in 4 years

According to the Israel’s Bank Israel economy grew by 4% in 2016, outperforming the U.S. and other Midlle East countries. The Israeli economy grew by 4% in 2016, exceeding projections by 1.2 percentage points and marking the most solid economic performance for the country since 2012, the Bank of Israel said Wednesday. In its 2016 annual report, the bank noted that the gross domestic product hit a record 1.22 trillion shekels ($337 billion); Israel had a record $12.4 billion surplus in its current account balance of payments; unemployment dropped to 4.8% in 2016; public debt dropped to an all-time low of 62.8% of GDP; the number of employed Israelis hit a record high of 3.74 million people; the GDP per capita reached a historic high of $36,800; private consumption climbed by 6%; and Israelis overall standard of living increased by 5%. Israel’s economy growth it was 2.3 times higher than the average growth among Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development members; and 2.5 times higher than average growth in the eurozone. According to the data, since 2011, the Israeli economy grew by a cumulative 21.6%, exceeding all OECD member states. Netanyahu hopes that economy growth even better thanks tto the excellent management of the country. Israel is also ranked second to last among OECD nations in terms of the actions taken by the government to help households out of poverty.

US secretary of state due to visit Turkey with ‘interim zone of stability’ on agenda.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will pay a visit to Turkey on March 30 to discuss the case of U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gülen, whom Ankara accuses of orchestrating the failed 2016 coup, and the U.S.-led offensive to retake Raqqa from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The secretary of state also plans to discuss an “interim zone of stability” in Syria based on cease-fires. Tillerson will discuss “interim de-escalation zones based on cease-fires or other means” with Turkey, a State Department official said March 27. The deal there is that Turkey has an agreement, a commitment to deliver elements of the opposition, and critically, Russia has a commitment to deliver the regime to make sure that these cease-fires hold”, the official said
